Effect of Ethrel on Growth and Initiation of Femals Flowers of Cucumber Plant

Abstract
1. Effects of varying application methods of Ethrel on growth and initiation of female flowers of cucumber plants were studied. Five cucumber cvs. Sa Yeup, China-Sam-chuck, Huck-Jin-Ju Chung-Jang-Madi and Keryang-Seoul-Madi were employed for this experiment. High (pH 6.0) and low pH (3.0) of Ethrel soln. (120§·/§¤) were prepared and applied to cucumber seedlings when two main leaves were expanded on 12, Sep. 1970.
2. Ethrel application resulted in the significantly increased the number of female flowers as compared with the control. Moreover, twice application of Ethrel (pH 3.0) produced more female flowers than those of the Ethrel (pH 6.0) and control.
3. Ethrel inhibited growth of cucumber plants and the greatest retardation obtained at pH 3.0 of Ethrel soln. Different sensitivity on Ethrel application was found in each cultivars.
